Are my PDF files uploaded?

No. The document is opened and rewritten inside your browser. It is never sent to a server, and closing the tab discards it.

Is the original text deleted?

No, it is covered. Anyone who copies text from the page or opens it in a PDF editor may still find it. To remove text permanently, use Redact PDF.

Why does the new text look slightly different?

The fonts embedded in a PDF usually contain only the letters that were used, so the edit is written in Noto Sans or a standard font. Match the size and colour for the closest result.

What happens to digital signatures?

Any change to a signed PDF invalidates its digital signature. Treat the result as unsigned and keep the original.
